Since 1981, Language Resources has provided English and Japanese language training and translation services to many of Japan's leading companies and foreign affiliates.

Started by Geoff Rupp, a highly experienced and qualified applied linguist, Language Resources was among the first in Japan to introduce the concept of needs-based training with our SPEC (Special Purpose English Courses). We rapidly found our services appealed to a wide variety of clients in the steel, pharmaceutical, shipping, financial services, hotel and many other industries.

From our beginnings in Kobe, western Japan, our training, translation and interpreting services are now provided to clients from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Trainees range from technicians at steel and automobile factories to senior management in financial services, with an accordingly wide variation in training needs.

Large-scale training projects we have been responsible for include the training of some 200 managers and technicians sent to North America as part of a major joint-venture between US and Japanese auto manufacturers; the planning, design and total implementation of the English language training program for an American university established in Japan; and the training of 450 new employees of an international hotel in both Osaka and Nagoya.

Courses include English for Presentations, English for Business Negotiations, English for Meetings, International Conferences, Socializing, Telephoning, Business Correspondence, Overseas Study, Plant Inspections and many more - each tailored to the client's specific training needs.

We look forward to providing professional solutions to your language communication needs.

The People of Language Resources

Ours is a ‘people industry’. Our success depends on the team of people we employ and the skills and motivation they bring to the services we provide. We therefore believe the mere qualification of ‘native speaker’ is inadequate to provide a high standard of professional language services.

To ensure quality, all our language trainers are required to have undergone internationally-recognized teacher training such as the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (Cambridge CELTA), the higher-level Diploma (Cambridge DELTA) and/or a Master’s degree in English Language Teaching (ELT), Applied Linguistics or similar. This means we are almost unique in Japan.

In similar fashion, all our translators and interpreters have a minimum of 5 years’ professional translation experience, each with individual fields of specialization. We are always pleased to hear from appropriately-qualified prospective employees.
